		<description>Interesting post - and article.  First of all, in &#039;defense&#039; of HR, it&#039;s probably equally true to say that a good percentage of people in other jobs are also relatively ineffective and a barrier to their organisation&#039;s success.

On the other hand, HR (in my experience) is in a uniquely difficult position in most organisations in that it is charged with dealing with the tough stuff (how people feel and behave) in an environment without a vocabulary capable of dealing with it.

If there is one core competency I think is necessary for HR (indeed for leadership and management) it is emotional literacy and awareness. However, I don&#039;t see how the HR profession can develop those skills (let alone an organisational vocabularly to deal with them) in a culture that conceives of &#039;leadership&#039; as something different from &#039;HR&#039;.</description>
